[MPlayer-users] Optimizing CLI

Hi

I was wondering is there any reason other than "nobody did it yet" for
having all those different names for the same things for mencoder CLI ?

For example lets take the xvidencopts, lavcopts, divx4opts :
- br(divx4/5)=bitrate(xvid)=vbitrate(lavc) ?
- 4mv(xvid)=v4mv(lavc) ?
- vpass(lavc)=pass(xvid/divx4) ?
- quant_range(xvid)~=vqmin/vqmax(lavc)=min_quant/max_quant(divx4) ?
- vqscale(lavc) = fixed_quant(xvid) ?
- key(divx4) = keyint(lavc) ?
- q(divx4) = me_quality(xvid) ?

Also this all -lavcopts, -xvidencopts, -divx4opts , -whatevercodecopts
could be merged in a cleaner interface (like mencoder -ovc lavc -ovcopts
pass=1:bitrate=1200).

I want to know what the developers of mencoder/mplayer think about unify
this paramaters which represent the same thing. For a user stand of point
its a lot easier to learn some params and be able to use them on all other
codecs then to learn separate params for each codec...
