[MPlayer-users] drive errors only with dvds

I'm seeing drive read failures only when playing back dvds, like so:
Feb 19 20:36:48 porky kernel: hdd: cdrom_decode_status: error=0x30
Feb 19 20:36:56 porky kernel: hdd: cdrom_decode_status: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
Feb 19 20:36:56 porky kernel: hdd: cdrom_decode_status: error=0x30
Feb 19 20:37:04 porky kernel: hdd: cdrom_decode_status: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
Feb 19 20:37:04 porky kernel: hdd: cdrom_decode_status: error=0x30
Feb 19 20:37:13 porky kernel: hdd: cdrom_decode_status: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
I've read many cdroms and audio cds without problem, but while reading dvds
I occasionally start getting these messages. Once it starts, all reads
fail.
The only things I've found that get it out of this state are ejecting the disc,
or rebooting. Unloading the kernel modules doesn't help.
Anyone else seen this behavior?
It seems to be made MUCH worse by enabling the RTC support, though it happens
occasionally without it.
