I have a very slow computer that will play 320x240 MONO avi's very well.

mencoder -dvd 1 -dvd-device /dev/cdrom1 -ovc frameno -oac mp3lame -lameopts vbr=3 vol=10 mode=3 -o frameno.avi

You need colons here!!!!! RTFM.
Rich
Thanks Rich,
You were right, I did need colons between vbr=3:vol=10:mode=3, but even that is not creating a MONO avi:
Checking audio filter chain for 48000Hz/2ch/16bit -> 48000Hz/2ch/16bit...
AF_pre: af format: 2 bps, 2 ch, 48000 hz, little endian signed int
AF_pre: 48000Hz 2ch Signed 16-bit (Little-Endian)
AO: [oss] 48000Hz 2ch Signed 16-bit (Little-Endian) (2 bps)
Building audio filter chain for 48000Hz/2ch/16bit -> 48000Hz/2ch/16bit...
I've even tried just -oac mp3lame -lameopts mode=3 (don't need any colons ;) but that still results in a two channel (which I stereo I assume) .avi file.
If anyone could offer any further suggestions, I'd be most humbly appreciative.
Thanks much,
Patrick.
