I guess it is either that Nautilus is already drawing on top of the
root window, or that mplayer doesn't like the way Gnome 2 sets the
desktop background. I played a bit, but I didn't see immediately how
to disable the latter (i.e., make the background be neither an image
nor a color). Maybe a gconf setting is needed for that.
