I think it was because I had SCSI emulation for my DVD drive (hdc=ide-scsi).
I need that for my cdwriter but then I can't play DVDs.

I turned it off and it worked.
I turned SCSI emulation back on and I got a different error:
"libdvdread: Could not open device with libdvdcss.".
I think libdvdread has bugs.
