[MPlayer-users] mplayer choppy audio w/ SB 128PCI (Ensoniq 1371)/ slow video

I've been having problems with syncing audio and video, while playing
MPEG and AVI files. The issue is repeatable.

As, I read the documentation, it suggested that I eliminate audio 
'-ao null', as a means to discern an audio problem. 
The test yielded less than desired results. I still had slow video.

I also removed the video, but the audio remained choppy.
Tried framedrop(hard), no effect.

My system - 
AMD K6-2 450mhz. 
ATI Radeon - 7000 (64mb) AGP
SB 128 PCI Soundcard
512mb physical RAM
(video files reside on NFS share, which is ATA 133 media 'hdparm
tweeked')

My software -
Slackware 8.1
KDE 3.0.1
ALSA 0.9
mplayer 0.9rc2

FWIW, I never had these problems w/my old SB16 ISA PNP and ATI Rage IIC
(4mb) ;)
