Actually it's because of metacity. Strange things this wm does with windows:).
Under KDE fullscreen switching/unswitching works fine. I will try to compile
newer version, if available (or use another wm). Metacity does very simillar
with ogle (0.8.5): exiting from fullscreen makes video window maximized (even
if before it wasn't maximized).

VideoRam limit is set. Disaster disappeard.
Probably I will use only xv output, since it consumes less CPU (according to
mplayer's stats during playing).

It seems that this is gone now (in cvs 20030108). I haven't noticed this.

I know (I've let CD to be empty deliberately). The thing that concerns me is
that gmplayer treats, after failure opening vcd or dvd, other files as they were
vcd (or dvd).

To be honest, I didn't check this one very good.
These dots appears in left-up corner of context menu, and are visible
everywhere (on mplayer, desktop, other apps). However, if I change
postprocessing level, dots dissapears.
I didn't add -v output, because these dots don't left any signs in console
output.
I've put some screenshots in incoming/kooph directory:
kooph-1.png - making of... dots
kooph-2.png - dots on video
kooph-3.png - dots on console
