Maybe... Matlab can't read AVIs produced by mencoder and -ovc rawrgb. If
I read the AVI, copy the data, and create new AVI using avilib, it works
fine.

I don't know whether this is a bug in Matlab or mencoder, so I haven't yet
complained loudly. Matlab is proprietary, but it looks like the AVI-reading
source is in human-readable M-files, so somebody could debug where's the
problem. Also, there should be a free trial version of Matlab, available
for downloading [www.mathworks.com] (hint, developers)
