I'm using mostly the defaults, for some recreational Mac OS X fun, but
have come to the following conclusions that I'd like some confirmation
of: Can anyone answer one or more of these questions?
Disclaimer: I've searched the mailing list archives, (re)read the DOCS,
and cruised through 3ivx' message boards etc.
1. QT, even with the divx5 codec's installed, needs the used of the
DiVX 5.0 Validator to clean up the file so it doesn't completely cause
QT to barf. True?
2. The default settings of vmax_b_frames of 0, causes the inability to
seek through long movies. Setting it to 1 or 2, permits the QT (and
other) players to quickly seek, but be extremely 'chunky.' Why? True?
3. the lavcopts vstrict option is no longer is there?
4. Is there a way to get the lavc codec to produce output for the use
of the poor (but more widely installed) QT Mpeg-4 decompressor. Forcing
the ffourcc doesn't seem to have much luck.
5. Other than getting good bit-rate and final-resulting size estimates,
does the multi-pass strategy get you any significantly better resutls
And hats off to Arpi. Elegant assembly work.
Reagrds,
Matthew
