	Hello guys,
sorry for the harsh subject. Hope you didn't get too pissed off.
I don't know if it's you whom I should mail to but, hey, this error still
appears after conpilation of the sources downloaded from YOUR site. Next whom
I'll be mailing are the libdvdread maintainers... but your e-mail was more
handy. I hope you can understand...and (preferably) post this question in the
FAQ. Needless to say that I sarched the whole google.com respectively
google.com/linux for answers. The closest thin I stumbled across was this
post:

Can't open VMG info!
do this commands:
 <might have to be root>
 mknod /dev/scd0 b 11 0
 mknod /dev/scd1 b 11 1

 gcc -O2 -o rpcmgr rpcmgr11.c
 su
 ./rpcmgr -i /dev/sg0
 ./rpcmgr -s /dev/sg0
 ./rpcmgr -r=1 /dev/sg0
 ./rpcmgr -r 1 /dev/sg0
 ./rpcmgr -r 1 /dev/sg0

 pico /etc/lilo.conf
 find root = /dev/hda1 append="apm=power-off hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi"
 change the hdc-ide-scsi to ide-cd

 save and exit
 and BE SURE TO TYPE:
 lilo
 THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, or else u will find urself can't go into ur kde or
some othe badstuff, @ least thatz for my comp
 now ur scd0 is ur CDRW
 and ur hdc is ur DVD

 be root
 rm /dev/dvd
 ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/dvd
 <change other cdrom stuff to /dev/hdc if u need to>
 and hope u can play ur DVD now

OK, HERE'S THE ACTUAL FEEDBACK (from me personally):

1. I can't play DVDs because of the error "Can't open VMG info!"

2. this is the command console feedback:

 3. The error occurs when installing mplayer from compiled sources (downloaded
from your website) as well as precompiled *.rpms (from links2linux->Packman)

 4. My system:
 OS: SuSE Linux 8.2 Professional (the *.rpms from Packman were meant for this
distro)
 SOFTWARE:
 *when compiling the sources from YOUR website I only installed (except the
default SuSE install): SDL-devel, libsndfile(-devel), libsmbclient(-devel),
libpng-devel-libogg-devel-libvorbis-devel-gtkmm-devel-gtk-devel; I also
deleted the libdvdread installed by SuSE because your player has it built
into itself; all the bloody codecs (from Packman as *.rpms)
 *when installing the *.rpms from Packman I first installed (rebuilt, better
said) libdvdcss2
 HARDWARE:
 Celeron 4 (1700 MHz), Gigabyte 845PE, 512 DDR, GF3Ti200 (with accelerated
43.63 drivers-Q3A works fine), 20 GB WD HDD drive (primary master 1-st IDE ->
/dev/hda), Pioneer 114 DVD drive (primary slave 1-st IDE -> /dev/hdb), Ricoh
CD-RW (secondary master 2-nd IDE ->/dev/hdc), the rest I think is irrelevant
Note: before even compiling/installing something I did the following:
* created symlink to /dev/dvd: ln -sf /dev/hdb /dev/dvd
* enabled DMA on DVD: /etc/init.d/boot.local -> hdparm -d1 -a8 -u1 /dev/hdb

 5. It's mocking me
As I was writing you the above (logged on as user) I had opened a console with
two sessions; one as root (don't remember what I was doing - on thing is for
certain: when I try to play the DVD as root I get the error: Command not
found; when I'm logged on as root I get the VMG error) and the other one as
the current user. On the console as user I tried to play the DVD to send you
the above output - but instead, strange thing, it started playing the DVD.
OK, reboot to see if this fenomenon repeats itself - it doesn't (there's why
you got the above output).

 6. Sorry for bother.
