[MPlayer-users] playing a ripped dvd

My c-600 system is too slow to play dvd's well. top shows mplayer using 65% of the cpu and X using 35. I am guessing that if
mplayer didn't have to do css decoding, things would be much better. What are my options for ripping the dvd to one or more huge
files and playing them?
