[MPlayer-users] lirc problem (could not connect to socket...)

I've just checked out the latest version off mplayer and am having a lot
of trouble configuring my remote to work with it.

I am running mandrake 9.1, and have version 0.6.6 of lirc installed. I
have it set up correctly as I can see keypresses if I use the irw
program, and also, I am using it for xawtv, zapping and gnome radio.

When I start gmplayer, I get the following messages about lirc

.............................................
Setting up LIRC support....
mplayer: could not connect to socket
mplayer: No such file or directory
.............................................

I've done a chmod 666 on /dev/lirc, as surgested somewhere in the docs
with mplayer or lirc, but with little luck.

I am a relative newbie, only having linux for 2 month, so it might be
something very simple, but I've gone though all the user archives here,
and tried google groups with little success. All I get is info about my
.lircrc file, which I've tried various different mplayer settings in
(mplayer / mplayer_lirc and various buttons)

Any help would be well appreciated

Adam
