[MPlayer-users] Capturing using mencoder

Hi everyone,

I'm using:

MPlayer 0.90-3.2 (C) 2000-2003 Arpad Gereoffy (see DOCS)
CPU: Advanced Micro Devices Athlon TB Thunderbird (Family: 6, Stepping: 2)
Detected cache-line size is 64 bytes
CPUflags:  MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 1 3DNow2: 1 SSE: 0 SSE2: 0


I can watch TV fine with:
mplayer -tv on:driver=v4l:width=640:height=480 -vo xv


but if I try and capture with the following line the capture seems to 
"spool" in ram (upto about 200MB usage), then it dropps loads of frames 
and i quit it.  I've got a fast comp (1ghz athlon + 384MB ram) with a 
Brooktree Corporation Bt878 (rev 02) card.

mencoder  -tv  on:driver=v4l:width=640:height=480 -o tv.avi -ovc lavc 
-lavcopts vcodec=mjpeg  -oac mp3lame


Any ideas anyone?
