[MPlayer-users] question on slave mode

Hi,

I've recently obtained and installed mplayer. From the looks of the
documentation the slave mode would allow piped input to mplayer. This could
help me a great deal, but unfortunately I cannot get this to work. Most likely
I didn't or did do/read something which I should of shouldn't have...

I made a small test program which outputs

	pause

(with new line) to stdout every 5 seconds. This is piped into mplayer like

test | mplayer -slave -playlist videolist.txt

I expect that mplayer runs now in the slave mode, taking the pause command.
Next, I expect mplayer to play the vidoe's listed in vidoelist.txt. Well, the
latter works, but the videos are never paused.

What am I doing wrong? Any tip is greatly appriciated.

Then, another question (couldn't find this in the documentation, so I am afraid
it isn't possible...). Can I jump in the playlist? Thus, is it possible by
(piped) command to (e.g.) first play video numer 10, then video 15, then video
1, then video 36, .... Or am I limited to stepping forward/backwards by one?

Kind Regards,

Martin
