[MPlayer-users] More SBLive hwac3 woes

The overview:

AC3 passthrough sortof works. The sound makes it out of the card and
into the external digital decoder box and out the speakers just fine,
sounds great. However, when using hwac3, the video plays veeeeery
slowly, until mplayer decides that the a/v sync is way far off, and
stops playing audio and plays the video only (sound time in the status
line not advancing) at normal rate (i.e. not as-fast-as-it-can-decode-
it-to-catch-up mode) until the end of the file. When it hits the end of
the file, it exits rather than playing all the audio that it ignored.

The details, as per http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/bugreports.html

Software:

Distro: Debian 3.0r1 plus a couple bits from testing
uname -a: Linux cheetah.fastcat.org 2.4.20 #1 SMP Sun May 18 16:53:19
	EDT 2003 i686 unknown
libc version: 2.3.1
X version: XFree86 Version 4.2.1.1 (Debian 4.2.1-6 20030225230350...
gcc: gcc version 2.95.4 20011002 (Debian prerelease)
ld: GNU ld version 2.14.90.0.4 20030523 Debian GNU/Linux
as: GNU assembler 2.14.90.0.4 20030523 Debian GNU/Linux

Hardware:

cpu: Dual Athlon MPs, /proc/cpuinfo attached as cpuinfo.txt
video: Gainward nVidia GeForce 4 Ti4200 128M
video driver:: nvidia binary drivers 1.0.4349
sound: SBLive! 5.1
sound driver: OSS from creative (tried both release & CVS versions)

mplayer -v output: attached as mplayer.log.bz2

The file being played there is a 5.1 mix test VOB, which I can upload a
chunk of if someone wants. However, the sync issue exhibited is
identical to what's shown there in every divx, dvd, and vob file I've
tried. All of these play fine in vlc with its s/pdif output.
