For simple adjustements, use srttool, which is part of transcode (it's
not installed automatically; you can find it in contrib/subrip). For
more complex manipulations, use gsubedit (gsubedit.sf.net). However,
version I have (0.4pre1) is very buggy.

You can convert from/to srt format using mplayer.

There are no programs for very complex subtitle manipulations, you have
to use wine and run windows software...
