This is what I wanted to say.

I'm getting MPEG2-streams from my VDR-box with about 4 MBit/s (0,5
MByte/s) by http. With a maximum cache of 64 MByte provided by
"-cache"-option of MPlayer there are about two minutes I can cache up
for pausing.

With a secondary cache on disk simply taking over data which cannot be
hold in the ram-cache this could be extended unlimited.
