The CRC check messages mean mplayer can't read the AC3 data properly
from the DVD - usually an indication of a dirty/scratched disk, though
in cases where it's really bad the video gets messed up too so I'm not
sure if that's the problem you have. Try cleaning the surface of the
DVD carefully and see if you can get any better results.

I think the messages from hwac3 indicate that it's getting unexpected
(seriously messed up) data, and switching to DTS mode until the AC3
stream returns to a recognizable state. That's just my guess, though.

That supports my idea that your disk is dirty; however, you should be
able to reproduce the same "destroyed" effect by simply playing the DVD,
if that is the case. What happens if you do so?
