[MPlayer-users] speed/bitrates with mp3lame vbr, varying q and aq

Posting some results from mencoder -oac mp3lame lame vbr encodings, hope
it has some value for someone. If there is interest, I can repeat the
experiment with other type of material. Running a test of re-encoding
the audio of a TV-grab with more noise, will post later.

Original source: Beauty and the Beast DVD, AC3 5.1 at bitrate 384000
Encoding source: decoded vob on HD from mplayer -dumpstream
Length: 5248.24 seconds, 131206 frames
Target: lame vbr=4 (mtrh) mp3
In summary, I'd recommend q=2:aq=0 for similar material because
* neither q nor aq seems to have any significant influence on speed
* increasing quality to q=2 still kept the bitrate < 128 kbps
* q=9 results in exactly the same file size as q=3, but has supposedly
worst quality
* on the subjective side, if you are short on bits, q=8 produces very
decent quality and lowest bitrate
