[MPlayer-users] playback of MPEG-4 video "stuttering" every few seconds

Hi,

I have a video encoded like the following:

Opening video decoder: [ffmpeg] FFmpeg's libavcodec codec family
Selected video codec: [ffdivx] vfm:ffmpeg (FFmpeg DivX ;-) (MS MPEG-4 v3))

output device:
VO: [xmga] 720x272 => 720x272 Planar YV12

The problem is that the video "stutters" every few seconds. The disk is
fast enough, and I have tried -cache 20000 and -double and -framedrop,
but it seems that occasionally mplayer just gets "stuck" on a frame and
causes a pause of a couple hundred ms. The video and audio stay in
sync, but the audio skips to catch up, and the video jumps around as
expected.

Is this related to some previous post about i-frames causing mplayer
slowdown? Would any more information be helpful? I ran mplayer -v but
nothing was presented when the hiccup occurs.

thanks,
