[MPlayer-users] audio codec comparison

I find the ffmpeg audio codecs to be fast, almost twice as fast
as lame.  But I'm wondering how good or how bad are the codecs in
comparison to lame?  I use mencoder mostly to (re-)encode video
which contains 224Kbps mp2 audio.  At present I'm using the ac3
codec at 112Kbs (as against my lame settings of q=7 or q=8 which
produces 96 to 128Kbps audio)
