The built-in XFree driver for nVidia cards doesn't support Xv for TNT models.
The best thing you can do if you want Xv is to install nVidia's binary drivers.
Go to their site, download them and follow the instructions.

I'm using these drivers with GeForce 256 (previously with TNT) and I haven't
experienced any problems so far (RedHat 7.3). You'd better upgrade your
MPlayer to 1.0pre2, too. :)
