I get a similar bug reported in

Running:
mencoder $INPUT -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=565:vpass=1
    -oac copy -o $OUTPUT.avi  -vf pp=lb -ofps 23.976  -vop crop=720:370:0:52
mencoder $INPUT -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=565:vpass=2
    -oac copy -o $OUTPUT.avi  -vf pp=lb -ofps 23.976   -vop crop=720:370:0:52


During the second pass I get:
