[MPlayer-users] crappy MPNG´s

Hello again, everybody,

I am, after successfully compiling MPlayer & -Encoder, a bit disappointed by
the quality of the movies I get as a result.

First, I´m trying to translate a camera through a kind of a tubule, which has
it´s end in the focus of the picture. But in the movie that focus is lost,
and, although the focus of the movement still is the center of the tube´s
end, the new center of the picture is somewhat shifted to the left, as if I
were only seeing the left (a bit more than half) part of the picture.
The .png´s were created with a size of 800:600 pixels, and I´m encoding with
mencoder -mf on:w=800:h=600:fps=25:type=png -vop pp=dr/fd/lb -ovc copy -o
Filename.avi \*.png
so it should get me a Movie of the size 800:600, with the frames remaining
unchanged, right?
But it doesn´t.

Second, there are two things: while Anti-aliasing seems to work pretty well
inside povray, there is no effect of it to the final movies; even if the
.png´s looked really nice before, after running through the encoding process,
they look like that M.C. Escher stairway picture. Is there any filter, or
other method in mencoder that could keep the Antialiasing intact (although I
doubt mencoder could reverse Antialiasing - another effect maybe?!)?
And there is another problem, as I did raytrace the images, i have some
spheres in the pictures which reflect light; while "shining brightly" in the
png´s, after encoding they turn into some kind of rings, looking like
interference rings. Is there a way to keep those spheres (which are vital to
the pictures/movie) as "shining" as they were in the .png´s?

And third, concerning colors: I made the .png´s with a color depth of
rgb16bit, but mencoder, if not told to use option -vop rgb2bgr, produces
movies in false colors. If I reverse it with the above mentioned option, the
colors are about the same as they were, but the result is not very pretty
(crappy colors, etc.).

I´d greatly appreciate any kind of support or help to any of the questions
mentioned above, and please be patient again, as I´m still new to this list
(so, if you need any additional information, or if I didn´t explain myself
properly because of my crappy english, please tell me). Of course any link to
a tutorial would be fine, too, as I didn´t find any through my oracle
(google).

GREETINGS from Vienna

Christoph
