My experiences show that shielding audio cables is not such important when
they are of low impedance (< 2000 Ohms) and really _short_ (< 1 meter). In
case that you get a noise in because of a missing or bad shielding, this is
usually a typical "50Hz humming", roughly the same as audible when you
touch the stereo-plug's tip with a finger.

But his descriptions reads as when it is no 50Hz humming, so it cannot be a
bad shielding.
