At least Matrox XF86-driver has rotation option:
mga(4x):
Section "Device"
       Option "Rotate" "CW"
 
       Option "Rotate" "CCW"
              Rotate  the display clockwise or counterclockwise.  This mode is
              unaccelerated.  Default: no rotation.
