Are you getting your debs from marillat.free.fr? If so, then the
developers don't support them (I don't remember why). The best method
for debian is to download the source from cvs, download libavcodec cvs
(read http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/en/codecs.html#libavcodec), and make
a debian pakage with:
$ export DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS="<whatever options to pass to ./configure>"
$ fakeroot debian/rules binary
Then you just install the .deb with dpkg -i
Anyway, what you were getting is an mplayer prerelease binary package.
When you download the cvs, you get the very latest source (which hasn't
been released yet). The bug you're having was fixed after the last
release.
