After installing lame, you have to recompile MPlayer, so that the configure 
script can detect lame, and lame support can be compiled in.

After installing lame, grab the MPlayer sources from www.mplayerhq.hu unpack 
and do

./configure | grep -i lame

to see if lame is detected.  If it isn't, something is wrong with your lame 
installation.
