[MPlayer-users] blocky gradients

encoding with lavc mpeg4 is turning out really well for me now, for the
most part.  everywhere there is motion especially, mencoder is doing a
really good job.  however, where there are gradients that don't move much
(like in the background of a scene) these gradients show lines and blocks
that are unattractive.  I was wondering if there was a filter or process
that improves this type of problem (and hopefully doesn't hurt the quality
of the other parts of the scene)?
