in my test using command below
 
mplayer -playlist http://www.thebasement.com.au/live/asx/broadband.asx

couple of error messages
ProcessInputError  r:0x80004005=-2147467259 (keyframe: 1) 0%  0%  0.0% 0 0 18%

then video starts playing sometimes other times just endless errors like above.

there were no endless loops resolving an address.
