mplayer or gmplayer? mplayer works for me under gnome 1.4.0.4 and I don't
use the GUI much.

$ rpm -qf `which panel` 
gnome-core-1.4.0.4-54
$ rpm -q mplayer
mplayer-1.0pre5-2
