Try using diff to find differences between Mandrake-land compile's
configure.log/config.mak/config.h and Gentoo-land's to see if anything 
was detected differently, e.g.,

diff -U3 /path/to/mandrake/MPlayer-<whatever>/configure.log /path/to/gentoo/MPlayer-<whatever>/configure.log
diff -U3 /path/to/mandrake/MPlayer-<whatever>/config.h /path/to/gentoo/MPlayer-<whatever>/config.h
diff -U3 /path/to/mandrake/MPlayer-<whatever>/config.mak /path/to/gentoo/MPlayer-<whatever>/config.mak
