I have a dir with this:
$ file *
f.avi:     RealMedia file

When I try to encode this like DivX ;-)

$ mencoder -idx f.avi -oac copy -ovc copy -ni -cache
8192 -o Guzzanti-primo.avi

I get this:

bytes).
Maybe you are playing a non-interleaved stream/file or
the codec failed?
For AVI files, try to force non-interleaved mode with
the -ni option.
