I have a dir with this:
$ file *
f.avi: RealMedia file
(I've made this with mplayer -dumpstream ... -dumpfile f.avi rtsp://...)
When I try to encode this in a DivX ;-)
$ mencoder -idx f.avi -oac copy -ovc copy -ni -cache 8192 -o out.avi
I get this:

Too many video packets in the buffer: (4096 in 5553546 bytes).
Maybe you are playing a non-interleaved stream/file or the codec failed?
For AVI files, try to force non-interleaved mode with the -ni option.
Pos: 134.5s 3413f ( 6%) 1364fps Trem: 0min 84mb A-V:0.048 [267:256]
