David. You need to get latest libavcodec from ffmpec, too.
Have a look at the README that cmae with MPLayer-current.tar.bz2.
There is the command to get latest ffmpeg/libavcodec via cvs.
Copy content of ffmpeg/libavocodec to the libavcodec directory in the
mplayer source.
Reconfigure, check that libavocodes was found and try again.
If it still does not work, you may have to take a look at /etc/codecs.conf
(etc in the mplayer source1) evt. edit it and put it in a place where
mplayer will find it.
