[MPlayer-users] question/bug: gmplayer, nvidia and rgb overlays?

mplayer1.0pre3 (built w/ gcc3.3)
nvidia driver (4620 and 5336)
xfree86-4.3

mplayer works fine; however, when attempting to use gmplayer, both the gui window and the video window never get updated--i.e. never get a redraw message.

in the XF86Config file, if i disable the use of RGB overlays (or use color-index overlays, CIOverlay), the problem doesn't exist. however, when i re-enable RGB overlays, the problem comes back and i need to have RGB overlays for other applications.

the video window only updates when i move or resize the window (i.e. gets a refresh/redraw event).

has anyone seen this problem? is it possible to force gmplayer to not query for an overlay visual (i.e. assume that there is no overlay visual, since when i disable overlay planes everything works fine)? i've started to dig into the gui code, and was wondering if someone has already encountered this problem and found a workaround.

i have tried the follow output drivers: xv, x11, gl, and gl2 and have the same problem with them all.

thanks.
