[MPlayer-users] can't open audio device on 1.0pre3

hello list,

i was using mplayer 0.91 (built from sources) and everything went fine.
great software.

today i upgraded to 1.0pre3, compilation was OK, but i'm having problems
with audio. the program can't open or access the device, and i get no sound.
i tried with 0.92 and i get the same problem. 0.91 works perfectly fine.

i'm using linux from scratch, kernel 2.4.22 and alsa 0.9.6. sound is working
perfectly all right on my system. sound card is a M-Audio Audiophile 24/96.

i tried many different audio and video files with different audio formats,
the error message is always the same, transcribed below.

i would greatly appreciate any help, i would really like to upgrade, i can
see many improvements in 1.0.
