with gcc 2.95.4
mplayer version  0.92-2.95.4
built in /usr/ports/multimedia/mplayer with the
make command line options:
make --enable-debug --enable-gui --enable-arts --enable-dvdnav 
--enable-css --enable-gif --enable-libdv --enable-mad --enable-live 
--enable-xvid  --enable-xmms --enable-faad --enable-freetype 2>&1 | tee 
Make.out


$ mplayer 
http://206.112.82.209/mou-mvc/weeklynews/february/wnews_18feb2004_300.wmv

The output is attached as file typescript. No core was produced.
