OK, I couldn't figure out how to get all of the text output, since
what I originally posted was all that was left on-screen. Finally
occurred to me to try -vo null.
Anyway, the system is Slackware 7, kernel 2.4.18-ck4. Apparently the
problem is independent of the video device, since -vo null gives the
same results as svgalib. Same with audio, although for whatever it's
worth, I have an SB16 w/ALSA 1.0.0rc2. The machine itself is an old
200 MHz Pentium MMX.
As noted, NASA's archived video works fine, but that may or may not
have something to do with which server is hosting the video.
