[MPlayer-users] codecs.conf dll with .so or .dll

I've read the docs on using win32 codecs.
I want to experiment with adding my own codec,
but not sure if I have to "massage" the .dll file
or not... it is not a common codec.

Secondly, it appears one can use ".so" files,
native linux shared libs?  Again, are there
more details about how this is done codecs.conf.
