I compiled my own mencoder build from the pre4 release (both under linux and
under win98) (I didn't succeed in building the latest cvs version yesterday
under linux so I tried the pre4 release instead).

The bug report is for the windows build, using MAKEAVIS (from ffvfw) to be
able to read an avisynth script.
I managed to get it to work, but I get this warning on a 29.97 ntsc purely
interlaced source (a dvd extra) (no pulldown):

[mpeg2video @ 009B2B8C]MPEG1/2 doesnt support 2997/100 fps, there may be AV
sync issues

I got the same warnings with the other builds I found.. I did encode the same
avs file using Tmpgenc plus at 29.97 mpeg2 (with good results and audio sync
on my tv too), so I wondered why mencoder was complaining.
I am doing some avisynth filtering on the source (using a script posted on
doom9 using separatefields/bicubicresize/weave ) retaining interlacing for
encoding on dvd.

I found this url:
http://zebra.fh-weingarten.de/~maxi/html/mplayer-dev-eng/2004-02/msg00172.html
which mentioned using -ofps 30000/1001 for 29.97 and -ofps 24000/1001 for
23.976.

I tried -ofps 30000/1001 and the warning went away.
