That does not work for DVD-ROMs, so you're stuck with "buzzsaw" effect
anyhow...  Better at least to have silence the other 95% of the time.

In any case, I'm rather sure you *do* save power when you cache data
that would otherwise have to be read from your hard drive (can't lower
the speed on it).
