Thanks, Olivier. But I can't do that. I don't like to encode from the dvd, 
as I prefer to encode from a rip, but the problem is my linux partition is 
quite small, while I have access to a very big FAT partition. I have to rip 
the dvd to the FAT partition, so I have to split the movie in several files.

Btw, if I have movie.avi encoded using cat (so it doesn't work under 
windows) and I do:
mencoder movie.avi -oac copy -ovc copy -o movie2.avi

movie2.avi doesn't work either (even if I try -idx or -forceidx in the 
command line above).

Just a question, if any of you encode using xvid and "cat file.vob | 
mencoder - ..." then, can you see the resulting video under, let's say, 
windows media player?
