[MPlayer-users] Lilac band at right of encoded DVD

In the past I've used mencoder 0.92.1 for encoding DVDs to MPEG4
since it was the most recent version in FreeBSD ports. After a gap
I've returned to this, but now I'm using 1.0pre3 on FreeBSD, built
manually, and 1.0pre4 on Gentoo.

I've just tried encoding two DVDs and in both cases the resulting files
play fine with mplayer and xine, but if I use bsplayer/ffdshow on a
Windows box I get a lilac coloured band down the right side of the
window. I've tried different versions of ffdshow with the same result.

The crop/scale parameters I'm using are (for example):

-vf crop=702:436:10:70,scale=992:432

This is for the PAL version of Paycheck.

The scaled dimensions are both multiples of 16 so I don't think
I've made a mistake there.

I'm makeing these to send to someone who only has a Windows box,
so I need them to work with ffdshow.

I'm at a loss to know what to try, save for re-encoding with lots
of different scaled sizes to see if that affects it in any way.
