With MPlayer dev-CVS-040527-18:58-3.3.3:

alsa: 44100 Hz/2 channels/4 bpf/4064 bytes buffer/Signed 16 bit Little Endian

If this buffer size is the reason, is there a way to adjust it?
(My Hardware: onboard sound: ASRock K7VT2 with VIA VT8233/A/8235 AC97 Audio 
Controller)
