Hello all, I just bought a Sonic Youth dvd that uses 48K/24bit pcm
stereo (according to the box). When I play it back with mplayer, I get
white noise. Looking at the output, I see
==========================================================================
Opening audio decoder: [dvdpcm] Uncompressed DVD/VOB LPCM audio decoder
AUDIO: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, 16 bit (0x10), ratio: 192000->192000 (1536.0
kbit)
Selected audio codec: [dvdpcm] afm:dvdpcm (Uncompressed DVD/VOB LPCM)

AF_pre: 48000Hz 2ch Signed 16-bit (Little-Endian)
AO: [oss] 48000Hz 2ch Signed 16-bit (Little-Endian) (2 bps)

I strongly suspect the white noise is mplayer decoding at 16 bit vs 24.
My best guess after reading the man pages and FAQ for changing this was
mplayer dvd:// -rawaudio bitrate=24. This had no effect.
Does anyone know how to change this? I'm using version 1.0pre4-3.3.2 on
gentoo. Please reply to this address along with the mailing list as I'm
not currently subscribed.
Thanks!
Geoff
