[MPlayer-users] Mplayer won't launch with new tarballs

Dear friends:
I have recently done a complete, fresh install of my Xandros 2.0/Debian
system. Everything went very smoothly. All tarballs installed perfectly. All,
that is, except Mplayer. So, I deleted ALL of my mplayer tarballs, downloaded
brand new ones (mplayer 1.0pre3) from mplayerhq.com and started from
scratch. The installation of Mplayer (./configure --enable-gui
--enable-win32) as well as mplayerplug-in went smoothly without a hitch.
EXCEPT for one little problem: Mplayer still won't launch. When I click on
its Desktop Shortcut (executable at /usr/bin/local/gmplayer), it tries to
launch. You see a flash (looks like a small box with the word "Error" on it),
and then it dies.
Here is the output from the console:
1) for "gmplayer"

I renamed "win32" "codecs", but still Mplayer refused to launch.

Just to be sure, I made a duplicate of "win32" and put it in /usr/local/lib
and also put a duplicate of "font" and "Skin/Blue" in /usr/local/share/
mplayer.
But Mplayer still won't launch. I am at my wits' end. I just can't figure this
out. It worked perfectly in my last installation with identical
configuration. Would really appreciate your help.
Thank you very much.
Benjamin
