As I said in my previous post, you need to put .lircrc into your home
directory and lircd.conf into /etc. I assume that you have root access to
the machine, but you need that for lircd anyways.

lircd.conf has to correspond to your *remote control*. You wrote that you
have a WinTV Nova-T. I assume that this is a TV capture card. Does it
come with a remote? If so, the above lircd.conf might be correct
(although it says "Hauppauge WinTV Nexus" in the header). Also, you wrote
that you read somewhere to "Make lircd take it's input from
/dev/input/event0 by passing it --device=/dev/input/event0". I said that
this was not necessary but I might have been wrong. When you start lircd,
try starting it by calling "lircd --device=/dev/input/event0".

Next thing: .lircrc
The one the above link points to will do nothing with mplayer. Again: Read
the link I provided to find out how to set up a .lircrc for mplayer.
Since you seem to have no clue on how lirc works, you should probably
start by reading the appropriate documentation on lirc.org:
http://www.lirc.org/html/configure.html
or at least the section on .lircrc:
http://www.lirc.org/html/configure.html#lircrc_format
