You guys are missing the point.  If you want to
extract the audio from a 3 hour concert video, that
can be done in minutes on a good machine with a
transcoder,  or it can be done in 3 hours with the
mplayer -dumpaudio technique.  

I'll attempt to elicit support from the developers
and/or develop a patch as time permits.
