[MPlayer-users] deinterlacing

I'm very confused about deinterlacing.

I've got a greyscale huffyuv avi movie (U and V components set to 127) 
that I want to deinterlace and then output as a series of png files.

I've been using -vf pp=lb but I understand that it is very lossy.

I would like the process to be as lossless as possible (speed is not an 
issue).

Does anyone have any advice or know a page that has good advice.
